A tribute to IQBAL

November 9, 2009

By Wardha Jawdat

Your conscience slept
Soul placid as death
Till he penned the word
Your eyes read
Your sentience wept
Your soul screamed “KHUDI”

He treated the plague of dissipation
Forged out of us a nation
The subservience which was our grave
He pulled us out
Birthed the shaheen brave
He gave us the sky
Opened up the minds eye
You lulled in the slum
He pulled up the mountains high…..
You prayed, hidden in shadows till
He reminded you faith was pride still
He awakened the muslim brave
Set in motion soul storms
That set the world aquake
He was not man he was not saint
He was but the sage
Who gave us an IDENTITY
