Security Breach In Pakistan: Military Must Reign In Its Ex Sleuths

Time for Services Chiefs and Chairman JCSC to take action

Three cheers to these custodians of national secrets and national solidarity and hats off to our television hosts – or anchor persons as we call them in Pakistan – who not only encourage these retired officers to talk but willingly provide them a platform to air national secrets, live, across the world, without care for the price the nation will have to pay for this collective act of grave indiscretion. It is time that the Services Chiefs of Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy should sit together under the Chair of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and end this soap opera at national cost.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan—The way former Pakistani intelligence officers are spilling the beans on television screens these days has no precedence anywhere else in the world.

It is a fact that nowhere in the world do former Armed Forces officers or former Intelligence agents reveal sensitive information about actions carried out under the State Secrets Act.

Official secrets are kept secret until death because disclosing them can harm the interests of the country and the nation.

Pakistan, however, is very unfortunate in this regard. In our country those who are supposed to be the custodians of national and official secrets have themselves started succumbing to the lust of fame and the pull of a sensation-hungry media.

Former ISI Chief Lieutenant General Hamid Gul (Rtd) set the trend. This encouraged many others and now another former ISI Chief Lt. Gen. Asad Durrani, former Corps Commander Quetta Lt. Gen. Tariq Pervez, former Chief of Air Staff Kaleem Saadat, several former ISI officers, and now the former chief of the country’s civilian intelligence agency, IB, Brigadier Imtiaz, top the list of those who are daringly disclosing official secrets on talk shows with impunity.

Keeping in view their respective career records, we can expect that these retired officers know much more official secrets than what they are revealing, and they are revealing a lot. And they are committing this blunder without realizing the damage they are doing to the nation’s security and solidarity.

In fact, these officers may not realize that their indiscretions qualify them for trial under high treason charges and that they are also violating the oath under which they committed they would never disclose. They are not supposed to expose state secrets even 50 or 100 years after their retirements.

The Daily Mail strongly believes that it is about time that the Services Chiefs of Pakistan Army, Pakistan Air Force and Pakistan Navy should sit together under the Chair of Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and devise a policy to ensure that no one from the three services is ever allowed again to disclose such secrets to media and if he or she does so, they should be tried in military courts for violation of oath and sedition.

The Daily Mail also believes that the above mentioned former ISI and Army officers must be arrested by ISI and should be interrogated thoroughly to identify the internal and foreign actors on whose behest these retired officers are damaging the country’s solidarity and destroying the image of national institutions. We believe that if this is not done, the country’s safety, security and image would remain in a double jeopardy.

These retired officers should not be let free with a license to play havoc with the integrity of national institutions and national security.

  1. It is so sad that Pakistan Army officers are resorting to such cheap tactics. The first ‘disloyal’ officer is none other than Ex General, Hamid Gul. He started his irresponsible slander against General Musharraf in his interviews which PKKH publicized, most irresponsibly. He set the bad precedence. PKKH set the bad precedence. Never before has a Pakistani General used such a language which Hamid Gul used, irresponsibly. All for sake of cheap popularity. But a dead clown need to be forgiven. Now this disease of disclosing ‘classified information’ is becoming an epidemic. I totally agree with the author, Babar Sultan, that these irresponsible clowns must be put on trial. We need to go forth with a ‘summary court martial’ and such traitors should be shot dead.

    • dont b fooled by what the media is showing you .. remember Mr Zaid Hamid has not even discussed this topic ..itx just a master plan to divert some attention ..nd yes most of the information that is being revealed is not true ..itx fake ..

  2. Dude “Asarul’Islam Syed MD” what have been smoking this is a month of Ramadan remember. General Hamid Gul said the truth about that scum sold out trator “Mush” needs to get a stick up his tosh. And that is what going to happen sooner or later.

  3. Thanks for respecting Ramadan.

  4. @Syed & Akbar: Surely you both know better than to fight amongst yourselves.

It should not be forgotten that these are tactics played by the MI to frighten away any adversary, which at the moment mian nawaz sharif has turned out to be….He was putting extra pressure to bring down Mush to trial, who is an ex-General, and this isn’t possible so far, and hence to malign him, a whole bunch of bull shit “secrets” was aired by retd. Army personnel to make it look real….. this is nothing but propaganda, so let’s not fret over it. We young Pakistanis got better things to do. Stand up together for Pakistan. Neither for Nawaz Sharif nor for the Generals. Finish off “Shakhsiyat parasti” from your beliefs, from your mindset. We only serve Pakistan, neither politicians, nor Generals. These articles are published by PKKH only as FYI. No need to pass judgements over FYIs.

    • very true ..i agree to ur point ..no need to abuse our intelligence experts ..they know better than us ..

  5. Ive always maintained that Hamid Gul is a Devil, the Right Hand man of Zia

What has Hamid Gul Done for Pakistan ? sure he makes interesting statements now and then but when he was Head of ISI he was in the center of mehrangate

  6. Dears,

I think its too early to decide the dynamics of the recent havoc created by Brig Imtiaz on some television channels. Undoubtedly, Brig Imtiaz held key positions in intelligance agencies and he knew much more than what he has revealed recently.

All of his discussion revolves around three points.

1)Ghulam Mustafa Khar was a Hindu RAW agent.

    2)IJI.

    3)Jinnahpur Maps were fake.

One can’t chellange him on his revelations regarding Khar and IJI, both have been proved from other sources as well. It has been proved bayond doubt that Mustafa Khar was a Hindu RAW agent. By the way, this is not just limited to Khar, in my opinion, majority of Pakistani politicians are agents of our hostile countries.

As far as his statement regarding Jinnahpur is concerned, I don’t believe that Jinnahpur maps were fake and by the way, MQM’s past is not just limited to Jinnahpur brainchild it is well beyond that. You can search the Videos of Altaf Hussein where he outrightly declared the creation of Pakistan the “GREATEST BLUNDER IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND”. MQM’s loyalists burnt Pakistani flag right in Quaid-e-Azam’s tomb and there are tens of things which point us that MQM is not as innocent as some people want us to believe.
