Balochistan Earthquake Victims Need Your Help!
Pakistani quake surviors beg for shelter from cold
“We’ve got food, we’ve got relief, but we don’t have tents which can save our children from the cold,” said Rehmat Kakar, a 70-year-old farmer standing by the rubble of his house in Wam Khazi village.
“We want those tents urgently. Please save our children, don’t let them die,” said Kakar, who said that four of his seven children were killed in the quake. [Reuters]
Help us save lives!
Further to our appeal for aid last week, we’ve had a very good response from readers all around the world. We have arranged for a few doctors to travel to the region as well as raised funds for medical supplies, and food. We now have Mobile Operation Theaters and Mobile Hospitals operating in the affected areas, and are providing over 5,000 people with tents and 2x hot meals a day.
However, much more is needed to continue aiding these victims and providing them with food, medicines and most importantly, shelter from the extreme weather conditions prevalent in these areas. Tents are a temporary measure which cannot protect from the sub zero temperatures in winter, or keep out rain / snow.
It costs roughly PKR 4,000 to put a corrugated sheet roof over the head of one family and provide blankets. One sheet costs around PKR 1,200 and thousands of these are needed on an urgent basis. This will go a long way in keeping out the snow / rain as well as the bitter cold winds. Many thousands of lives were lost (mainly children) in the aftermath of the 2005 earthquake, due to the bitter cold winter immediately afterwards. We don’t want see a repeat. We have a chance to save lives.

May Allah accept our deeds and bless us with Jannah in the afterlife.

AID APPEAL
The current confirmed death toll is over 300 and thousands of people have been injured. Thousands of homes have been completely destroyed leaving at least 15,000 people homeless and on the streets in extremely harsh cold weather.
Rescue and aid efforts have been slow in reaching the thousands of people affected by the earthquake. The primary requirement is of food and shelter from the intense cold weather for the survivors, burial of the dead, medicines and supplies as well as doctors and volunteers.
The 2005 earthquake saw the nation united as one, in helping the victims of the disaster with their generous assistance. A similar effort is needed on an urgent basis at all levels.
We have a team on the ground in the affected areas, working round the clock providing food, shelter, and mobile hospitals to the victims of this tragedy and we would greatly appreciate your assistance.
You can help!
If you are a doctor who can travel on short notice, or if you wish to help as a volunteer or with supplies/medicines/tents and other basic necessities, or even monetarily, please call +92 321 8950589 or email earthquake.balochistan@gmail.com for more information on our operation and how you can help.
Please pass this message on. May Allah protect our brothers and sisters, grant them ’sabr’ at this difficult time, and accept our honest gesture. Aameen.
