Muslims ‘Traitors’ Told To Get Out Of ‘Secular’ India

Those who oppose Vande Mataram should go to Pakistan: Uddhav Thackeray

M_Id_41874_bal_uddhav_thackerayMUMBAI: Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray Wednesday hit out at the Jamiat-Ulema-e-Hind for issuing fatwa against singing Vande Mataram saying that those who oppose the national song should go to Pakistan.

In a statement issued here, Thackeray said that the fatwa was issued in the presence of Union home minister P Chidambaram which shows that the Centre has indulged into minority appeasement.

“If anti-national fatwas are issued in the presence of the Union home minister then there is no future for this country. It looks like the Centre has a policy of Muslim appeasement for votes,” the Sena leader alleged.

He said Vande Mataram is not just two words but a flame to invoke nationalism. “If you don’t want to salute the motherland, then whom do you salute? What is the shame in saluting Bharatmata? Those who don’t want to salute Bharatmata should go to Pakistan, Bangladesh. There is no place for such traitors in India,” Thackeray said.

He asked his party members to put up ‘Vande Mataram’ boards all over Maharashtra. Such fatwas create tensions between Hindus and Muslims, he added.

All Pakistanis, Rise For Jinnah

August 26, 2009

The hostile attitude of many Indians to a book praising Pakistan’s independence leader is an eye opener for Pakistanis and confirms the narrow-minded Indian hostility for everything Pakistani. We believe that after this, if we do not stand up for Our Quaid, Our Country and Our People, we have no business claiming to be true Pakistani patriots. India has had an unspoken, untold and unsaid 60-year-old stand on Pakistani voices and Pakistani cultural content inside India from day one.  Why is it that we are constantly making way for them by offering them our audiences and market share in every field and industry when the sentiment and goodwill is not reciprocated in any manner from their side?

Indians Admit Quaid-e-Azam’s Greatness

August 18, 2009

“Jinnah was a great man. A self made man who resolutely worked towards achieving what he had set out to do. I think we have misunderstood him because we needed to create a demon… We needed a demon because in the 20th century the most telling event in the subcontinent was the partition of the country.”

“Look into the eyes of the Muslims that live in India, and if you truly see the pain in their eyes, to which land do they belong? We treat them as aliens.” – Jaswant Singh

‘Secular India’ is a myth – Emraan Hashmi

July 31, 2009

MUMBAI: “Am I a criminal or a terrorist?” asked an upset Emraan Hashmi on Friday. The Bollywood actor said he had been denied a house he wanted to buy in the upmarket Pali Hill area of Mumbai because he was Muslim. Read ‘Muslims unwelcome? Yes, says Emraan Hashmi

This, ofcourse is not the first time the ‘myth’ of India’s so called ‘Secularism’ has been shred to pieces. Noted Indian actress, Member of Parliament and renowned social activist Shabana Azmi is among the thousands of Muslims in India who have been a victim of India’s religious intolerance.

Quoting from, instances like the one narrated below are a daily occurrence in ‘Secular’ India:

“As soon as I entered the train, I saw some commuters beating up a Pathani-clad man. Even before I could realise what was happening, two of the commuters saw me and started hitting me as well. They just kept saying ‘get out of this country, go back to Pakistan, you do not belong here, you are the ones responsible for the blasts in the city’,” says a shocked Ghojaria.

The watch repair mechanic was all the more stunned when he was asked to take the name of Lord Ram and Lord Krishna. “When they started hitting me, I screamed ‘Allah’. That’s when they told me to call out to Ram and Krishna instead. They said they wouldn’t let go of me if I did not chant the names,” alleges Ghojaria, adding that the mob even pulled his beard. The abuse stopped only when the train reached Churchgate terminal. “Nobody came forward to help me. I felt utterly helpless throughout. When the train came to a halt at Churchgate, all the commuters, including the attackers, simply walked away,” adds Ghojaria. [Read Full Article]

Indian Muslims: ‘We are branded as Terrorists’

April 19, 2009

The Indian government’s “war against terror” may cost the Congress party dearly in the election.

Arrests and alleged extrajudicial killings of Muslim youths have angered many in the Islamic community.

“People in power have branded us as terrorists and used us as a vote bank, this cannot go on,” said the all-powerful cleric of Delhi’s Jama Masjid mosque, Syed Ahmed Bukhari, in a recent press conference.

“The security of Muslims is one big issue, as after every blast in India a series of arrests of Muslim youths takes place,” said a spokesperson for the influential All India Muslim Personal Law Board. Muslim men were “systematically killed” in routine police encounters, he alleged. [BBC]

Indian Muslims Fight Suspicion

April 16, 2009

More than six months after two young men from this village in India’s Uttar Pradesh state were shot dead by Delhi police for being alleged terrorists, a deep distrust of the outsider still prevails here.

Mohd Zahid’s brother, Sajid, was one of the men killed.

“He had gone to Delhi for the first time. He appeared for an entrance test in Jamia Milia university, but failed. So he joined a three-month English-speaking course. And they killed him! He was only 16. How could he be a terrorist?” asks a distraught Zahid.

Beards And Burqa’s Not Allowed: Indian Court

April 2, 2009

‘We don’t want Taliban in India’ – Judge to Muslim student.

NEW DELHI: A Supreme Court ruling that dismissed a Muslim boy’s case against his school after he had been expelled for wearing a beard, saying it would not allow the “Talibanisation” of the country, has drawn mixed reactions from Indian Muslims.

Justice Markandeya Katju, a member of the Supreme Court bench that delivered the verdict on Monday, said: “We don’t want to have Taliban in the country. Tomorrow a girl student may come and say that she wants to wear a burqa [in the school] – can we allow that?”

Mr Katju said an individual’s religious beliefs should be respected but within reason. “I am a secularist to the core. We should strike a balance between rights and personal beliefs. We cannot overstretch secularism either,” he said. It is interesting to note that there is no ban on Sikhs sporting beards and wearing Turbans, a religious requirement for Sikhs.

Last year, the Punjab and Haryana High Court turned down a plea by a Muslim Indian air force serviceman for the right to grow a beard. In a letter to the court the IAF had said only Sikhs were allowed to grow beards in the air force and Muslims were forbidden since the “practice” is “not universally recognised in Islam” as a religious duty.

India Balkanizing?

March 29, 2009

The central government is weak, corrupt, ineffective and impotent. Kashmir is on fire, as is Assaam and Bihar. 250 million Dalits do not feel “Indian”. The 150 million Muslims have been so mistreated that they are in abject generational penury. It will take more than 3 centuries to pull the poverty stricken out of destitute living. The media focuses on “Incredible India”, a figment of the imagination of the West.

Indira Grandson Vows To Cut Muslims’ Heads

March 18, 2009

Amid chants of Jai Shri Ram, the young face of BJP and the scion of Nehru-Gandhi delivered not just a speech of extreme vitriol but threatened to kill and cut heads and hands.

IND1661B.JPGRaising his hands, he repeatedly said that this not the Congress’ symbol of hand but is the BJP’s arm that will behead these kat****  (extremely derogatory word which is a highly offensive slang to describe the community). Unsurprisingly, Varun Gandhi has received support from Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray who has lauded his statements.

In an editorial of party mouthpiece Saamna, Thackeray wrote, “Whatever he has said is completely true and he should not be apologetic about it.”

Excerpts from Varun Gandhi’s speeches

Yeh panja nahi hai, yeh kamal ka haath hai. Yeh kat** ke galey ko kaat dega chunaav ke baad. Jai Shri Ram! Ram ji ki jai! Varun Gandhi kaat daalega! Kaat denge us haath ko, kaat denge, kaat daalega!

Hindu Extremism and the Threat to Pakistan

Hindus offered rewards for marrying Muslim girls

February 28, 2009

Rajesh Bidkar, a member of an Indore radical group (Indore is the largest city in Madhya Pradesh state in central India) on Tuesday issued a SMS ‘farmaan’ (edict) with a reward of Rs 5,000 ($120) for any Hindu boy who married a Muslim girl.

“He also and offered protection to Hindus who married Muslim girls.”

In the message, Bidkar said he had no objection to Hindu girls marrying Muslims, provided they are not cheated in the name of a religion “which permits to keep more than one wife”.

Urging people to forward the SMS to at least 10 others “in the interest of Hindutva”, Bidkar said: “We are not against love,
but against innocent girls being exploited in name of religion”.

India: For Hindus Only

February 23, 2009

The dual linkage of young Indian officers with both military and Hindu fascist organizations has caused a cancer to the military establishment in India. It has brought elements into Indian military who have their own goals which do not conform well with military discipline. An army with irrepressible elements is as dangerous to any country as its real enemy’s army can be or even more. Officers like Gen (R) Premnath Hoon joined Indian army decades ago and served at different posts all the way to rank of General before he retired. What is revealing that he was one of the founding fathers of military wing of Shiv Sena. This also proves that either before joining or during his service in military he established links with Shiv Sena but what is more important is that he was not alone in this venture but there was active support from Indian military through his contacts he made during service like Colonel Jayant Chitale who was also in charge in military selection center at Pune for many years.

Indian Muslims: Second Class Citizens

February 22, 2009

Just outside the Nawab Masjid mosque in Bhindi Bazaar, in Mumbai, worshippers have laid long strips of blue plastic as temporary prayer mats. Among the faithful is Gulzar Azmi, who spends much of his time defending some of the terrorism-case suspects who he says have been framed by the police. And he insists the system is still biased against Muslims.

“When a Muslim sets off a firework, even then they say it’s a bomb,” Mr Azmi complains.

“The government says one thing and does another… they pretty much treat Indian Muslims like second-class citizens. When a Hindu commits a crime they get charged with lesser offences. It’s the opposite for Muslims,” he says.

“It was only in September last year that the government finally accepted that Hindus are also responsible for bomb attacks,” he concludes. “Before that they’d never acknowledged that it could happen.”

The world body’s latest report on religious freedom paints India as a country suffering from communal divisions and mob-inspired persecution, and dwells at length on incidents like the recent violence against Christians in Orissa and the 2002 riots.

Kashmir – Journey to Freedom

A film by Udi Aloni. [Official Site] | [IMDB]

This is the story of a stateless nation that has become a tragic and deadly war zone, a land enveloped in a night of terror for 60 years, and a people born with no choice but revolution or despair.

The people in Kashmir live under a terrible and unprecedented military occupation, which denies its own existence and remains invisible to the world. Before 1943, Kashmir was a distinctively peaceful region characterized by harmonious religious coexistence between its Muslim, Hindu, Sikh and Buddhist communities. But today, divided between India and Pakistan, and labeled as terrorists and fundamentalists, Kashmiris are trapped in the middle of a tense and bitter conflict that has already exploded in three full-scale wars, leading to the nuclearization of India and Pakistan.

This film tells the story of a new generation of young Muslims that, inspired by the Sufi culture and Kashmir’s long history of ethnic and religious coexistence, started a non-violent movement in the hopes for a new peace in this land of mythic beauty that straddles between two anxious and volatile nuclear powers.

Israeli director’s film on Kashmir earns Indian ire

Srinagar, Feb 09: Indian authorities have taken umbrage at Kashmir: Journey to Freedom and are refusing to allow American-Israeli director Udi Aloni to return to India, after his film was premiered in Panorama section, at the Berlin Film Festival which showcases independent and arthouse cinema.

Aloni tells how a new generation of young Muslim Kashmiris, after years of armed resistance, decide to lay down their arms and start a nonviolent resistance movement – in the hope of finally achieving peace and independence.

Human Rights Watch: Letter to Kashmir CM

February 11, 2009

“Thousands of people remain victims of enforced disappearances in Jammu and Kashmir. The practices of “disappearances” and extrajudicial executions violate basic human rights, including the right to life, the right to liberty and security of the person, the right to a fair and public trial, as well as the prohibition on torture and cruel, inhuman, and degrading treatment or punishment. Under international law, an enforced disappearance is a continuing crime until the “disappearance” is resolved.”

“While previous governments have admitted that many persons are missing, it was claimed that they had crossed the border into Pakistan to become militants. Yet, as you are aware, unmarked graves of those deemed to have been unidentified foreign militants are scattered all over Jammu and Kashmir. Many believe that these graves contain the remains of their loved ones who were picked up by security forces, killed in custody, and then falsely identified in police reports to be foreign militants, usually Pakistani citizens. In many cases, when relatives have succeeded in their demand to have graves exhumed, their claims have been found to be correct.”

SPECIAL REPORT: US Grand Designs on Pakistan

January 26, 2009

“Those whose faith only increased when people said, ‘Fear your enemy: they have amassed a great army against you,’ and who replied, ‘Allah is enough for us: He is the best protector.” Al-Imran, 3:173

Pakistan since its inception has faced one crisis after another. It has continued to stumble from one problem to another due to never having a leadership with the capability or the will to tackle Pakistan’s problems head on. Today, Pakistan faces a situation which is unprecedented in its history. From some perspectives Pakistan’s inability to deal holistically with its problems has compounded its current woes. US plans for Pakistan are fast reaching boiling point, with the Mumbai attacks accelerating attempts by the US to weaken Pakistan.

What should be clear is that Pakistan is in no position to shape the geopolitics taking place in front of its very eyes. India is playing a very prominent role with the US in order to shape what happens to Pakistan. Both India and the US have successfully created international public opinion against Pakistan for having so called ‘rogue elements’ within its security services that say are a menace to the world due to their support for Jihadi groups. Such claims are eerily similar to the case the US built against Iraq and should confirm to every Muslim that we are in the early phase of the world gathering against another Muslim nation. The question remains that is Pakistan fast descending into the next Iraq? This paper attempts to analyse US historical interests in south Asia, the problem Pakistan represents for the US and what options remain open for Pakistan.

Hindu Fundamentalism

December 26, 2008

The pogrom in Gujarat, the targeting of Christian missionaries, all go unnoticed in the
western world because India is a major trading partner. —Reuters/File photo

ALMOST anything is digestible in the heat of the moment.

When Mumbai came under attack, most of Pakistan mourned as well. And why not, for who other than Pakistanis have been most brutalised by terrorism in the 21st century? We understand the pain, the trauma, the scarring of a collective psyche. When Indian leaders resorted to bellicosity, and when the media in that country went hysterical, most Pakistanis said let it be, they need to express their grief. Extreme anguish and irrationality can go hand in hand, and that is perfectly understandable even at a remove. But the dust has settled now and it is time to talk sense.

Its all in the Perception

December 22, 2008

Recently, the Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh labeled Pakistan to be the ‘epicenter of terrorism’. Is it true or a deliberate campaign to manufacture negative perceptions is in full swing?

One way to answer the question is through a rhetorical question: Do all the terrorists hold Pakistani identity cards, or are trained in Pakistan? Not at all! If the Indians choose to suffer from selective amnesia over their self-indulgences in terrorism (including state terrorism) then a brief introspective look should joggle their memories.

Since the Mumbai attacks, Indians are crying, the ‘sky is falling.’ As deplorable as the attacks were, they pale when compared to the Indian state terrorism and the pogroms regularly carried out by the Hindu extremists; which are arguably much worse than the isolated cases of terrorism. But God forbid if even a single crocodile tear is wasted on the victims of Indian sponsored terrorism, both within and outside India. Could it be true that India also has many skeletons in its closet that needs to be exposed too? At the forefront of Indian terrorism is its infamous intelligence agency, Research and Analysis Wing (RAW).

But before visiting the memory lanes, it might be prudent to familiarize ourselves with the definition of terrorism. The Webster’s dictionary defines ‘terrorism’ as: “the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion.”

Following are some of most glaring examples of Indian terrorism:

UT01086571. In 1971, at the cost of thousands of deaths, India maliciously severed Pakistan.
2. In June 1984, during the Operation Blue Star, Indian army massacred over 7,000 Sikhs.
3. In November 1984, in New Delhi well over 3,000 Sikhs were cut to pieces by the Hindu terrorists.
4. In 1992, Hindu terrorist groups, such as VHP and Bajrang Dal, demolished the 500 years old Babri Masjid.
5. Since early 1990s, the Indian military systematically exterminated close to 80,000 Kashmiri Muslims.
6. During the last 20 years alone, thousands of Christians are butchered by the Hindu terrorists. A gruesome example of such atrocities stood out when Bajrang Dal’s terrorists burnt alive the Australian missionary and his two young sons.
7. In 2002, Hindu terrorists slaughtered some 2,000 Muslims in Gujarat. Sickening confessions of the VHP’s leaders (e.g. Babu Bajrangi’s), responsible for the attacks, are available on the YouTube.
8. In 2007, over 60 Pakistanis were burnt alive in India. The gruesome massacre was the handy work of Bajrang Dal’s terrorist Lt Col Prasad Shrikant Purohit.
9. A brainchild of terrorist RAW, the globally known terrorist organization Tamil Tigers/LTTE was founded in 1972. To this day Tamils are funded, trained and armed by RAW. Its cadre are trained and provided safe-heavens in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
10. Just last September, VHP terrorists destroyed dozens of Christian churches. They also set a Christian orphanage on fire, and burned to death a 20-year-old Christian teacher.

Pick any of US State Department report on the Religious Freedom in India; one realizes, religious minorities in India had been systematically persecuted far worse than in rest of the world put together. The reports squarely blame the Hindu terrorist groups, like BJP, RSS, VHP and Bajrang Dal for gross human rights violations of the minorities (including Muslims, Christians, Sikhs and Dalits). If that’s not terrorism, then what is?

Since 1968, RAW had been intimately involved in everything that could be considered as terrorism. Its dirty deeds include, but not limited to: drugs trafficking, human trafficking, arms trafficking, coup d’etat in foreign nations, subversive activities, assassinations, nuclear proliferation, and downright recruiting, funding and training of exporting terrorists.

Some of feathers in RAW’s cap are: Creation and support of Mukti Bahini. Mujibur Rahman’s assassination. Subversive activities and flagrant spread of terrorism in Sri Lanka. Subversive activities in the Raj of Sikkim. Could it be mere coincidence that dozen or so Indian consulates dot the Pakistani border with Afghanistan? RAW established terrorist training camps in Afghanistan to spread terrorism in Pakistan in general, and in specific to infiltrate terrorists in Balochistan and NWFP. Cultivated, nurtured and armed Burmese terrorist groups like the Kachin Independence Army. Subversive activities in Nepal, Bhutan and Tibet. Nuclear proliferation activities include smuggleing of flow meter units, and feed & withdrawal equipment for the nuclear centrifuge cascades. CIA mole in RAW, Rabinder Singh, who defected to the US with documentary evidence, confirmed RAW’s infatuation with terrorism.

Some Indian Chanakyas are working overtime to capitalize on the Mumbai tragedy by manufacturing a supposed war of civilizations. They want to divide the civilized world between the so-called murderous Muslims and a hapless troika of Hindus, Jews and Christians. If the objective of the Mumbai terrorists was to take on the besieged troika, they must have been out of their minds to spend so many resources to take on the Christians and Jews in India when they could have easily killed many more in Afghanistan, where all the help and resources are readily available.

DWF15-672667Ironically, despite the bloodletting of hundred of thousands of minorities and foreign nationals, not a single Hindu or RAW terrorist could be found on UN’s, EU’s or even on US lists of terrorists. Conspicuously, not a peep could be heard from the so-called fair and balanced Indian and Western media, neither over the export of terrorism or the genocides that routinely take place in India.

During the last three decades, Pakistan has experienced more acts of terrorism than rest of the world put together. More Pakistanis had fallen to the terrorist attacks then rest of the world together. More Pakistani soldiers have sacrificed their lives fighting the terrorists (on RAW’s payroll) then all the NATO put together. Naturally, one has to wonder, is the bad reputation systematically forced upon Pakistan: a reality or a perception hyped by the enemies of Pakistan; especially, when their own record is arguably much worst?

Ghettoisation of Muslims in India

December 3, 2008

68.1% of Delhi respondents said they had friendly relations with Hindus, and the figure for Ahmedabad residents was only 2.9%. Many Ahmedabad respondents said that they feared and suspected Hindus, this being a result of the recent anti-Muslim pogrom and the enormous clout of Hindutva fascist groups in Gujarat. They also said that the infrastructural conditions in their new localities are far poorer than in the areas where they previously lived, attributing this to anti-Muslim discrimination on the part of government authorities.

Why India should look within.

November 29, 2008

Having cried wolf a few times too many, its not surprising that the rest of the world has, to be frank, had enough. Its about time India acknowledged the threats within its own borders not just from Muslims who feel increasingly alienated, but the rising threat of Hindu Terrorism, as proven in the case of the Malegaon attacks and Samjhauta Express bombings. Pointing the finger at Pakistan every time while ignoring / denying the threats it faces from within, coupled with a failure to address the deep-seated problems that fuel this hatred – will be counterproductive and will have disastrous consequences for India in the months/years to come.

Dan Qayyum – Pakistan Ka Khuda Hafiz

42-20656594 Chrtistine Fair, senior political scientist and a South Asia expert at the RAND Corporation, was careful to say that the identity of the terrorists could not yet be known. But she insisted the style of the attacks and the targets in Mumbai suggested that the militants were likely to be Indian Muslims – and not linked to Al Qaeda or the violent South Asian terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

“There’s absolutely nothing Al Qaeda-like about it,” she said of the attack. “Did you see any suicide bombers? And there are no fingerprints of Lashkar. They don’t do hostage taking, and they don’t do grenades.” Fair believes the attacks could be “yet another manifestation of domestic terrorism” that has its genesis in a longstanding institutional discrimination against Muslims.

“There are a lot of very, very angry Muslims in India,” she said, “The economic disparities are startling, and India has been very slow to publicly embrace its rising Muslim problem. You cannot put lipstick on this pig. This is a major domestic political challenge for India.”

“The public political face of India says, ‘Our Muslims have not been radicalized.’ But the Indian intelligence apparatus knows that’s not true. India’s Muslim communities are being sucked into the global landscape of Islamist jihad.

“Indians will have a strong incentive to link this to Al Qaeda. ‘Al Qaeda’s in your toilet!’ But this is a domestic issue. This is not India’s 9/11.” Hoffman agreed that the assault was “not exactly Al Qaeda’s modus operandi, which is suicide attacks.”

‘India trains all sorts of peoples, from terrorists to militants to fanatics, to suit its national and international needs. But in order to cover up its nefarious activities it focuses on Islam, Muslims, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Hajj, etc.; and blames its neighbors. Indian intelligence agencies are frustrated over the strong lobbying for highlighting Kashmir human rights violations at international forums by some NGOs in Europe and U.S., with the support of Indian human rights and peace activists. A huge lot of resources are being wasted on propaganda purposes by Indian government directly throughout the world.’

‘The Indian government has two choices. First, it can simply say that the perpetrators are a domestic group. In that case, it will be held accountable for a failure of enormous proportions in security and law enforcement. It will be charged with being unable to protect the public. On the other hand, it can link the attack to an outside power: Pakistan. In that case it can hold a nation-state responsible for the attack, and can use the crisis atmosphere to strengthen the government’s internal position by invoking nationalism. Politically this is a much preferable outcome for the Indian government, and so it is the most likely course of action. This is not to say that there are no outside powers involved — simply that, regardless of the ground truth, the Indian government will claim there were.’

Possible Geopolitical Consequences of the Mumbai Attacks | Stratfor.

‘India’s political leaders have long congratulated themselves on the absence of any home-grown al-Qaida threat.

But this week’s attack in Mumbai is the latest in a series of incidents that have forced the Indian government to acknowledge privately that there may be Islamist militant groups within its borders. Pranab Mukherjee, India’s foreign minister, explicitly accused Pakistan of involvement yesterday, but Indian defence analysts concede that it would have been near impossible to mount such a carefully coordinated assault on the city without some degree of local support.’

‘In the interests of combating terrorism, it won’t be long before anti-terrorist squads ask Indians with Muslim names questions like:  what are you doing out so late? Do you have a legitimate reason for walking near that hotel? How can you prove that you live in this city? If you’re not from here, what reason do you have for being in this city? It won’t be long before Indian Muslims are arrested simply for being Muslims, and asked to prove that they are not terrorists. As for the public, the great majority will applaud these actions. They’ll say it is unfortunate, but it is necessary. We know this because we have seen it all before.’

Is India reaping a harvest of hatred sown by Indians?  – We’ve seen it all before. A Sri Lankan Perspective.

Also, lets revisit the Samjhota Express blasts as well as Melagaon, both of which were blamed on Pakistan (ISI and Lashkar-e-Taiba) just as they’re trying to pin this one on us.

‘Indian authorities and the media were quick to assert that the evidence overwhelmingly pointed towards Pakistan and ISI. With the immediate release of sketches of the suspects, it seemed that Indians had it all figured out. For Pakistan it was nothing more than a feeling of déjà vu; India is known to have a history of blaming Pakistan and ISI for the smallest of occurrences in India, hardly ever backing it up with any credible evidence. And so when in 2006 Malegaon, a town in the Nashik district of the Indian state of Maharashtra, located at some 290 km to the northeast of state capital Mumbai, was rattled by a series of bombings, the blame was put on groups having links with Pakistan and Bangladesh. The Maharashtra Police blamed the Student Islamic Movement of India, further linking them to Lashkar-e-Taiba and in turn the ISI.’

‘The unlikely twist surfaced recently in India with the arrests of 10 people, including a serving Lieutenant Colonel Prashad Srikant Purohit, a Hindu monk and nun for their alleged involvement in bomb explosions that killed six people in the Muslimdominated town of Malegaon this year. So far, ten people, including a selfproclaimed Hindu seer and a serving lieutenant colonel, have been arrested for their involvement in the Sep 29 bombing. Besides Purohit, of the accused also include Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, Shivnarayan Singh Kalsangram, Shyam Bhawarlal Sahu, Major Ramesh Shivji Upadhyay (retd), Sameer Kulkarni, Rakesh Dattaram Dhavde and Ajay Rahirkar. The suspicion is now directed at the extremist Hindu movement Sangh Parivar, a network linked to a former Major, and now in custody, Ramesh Upadhyay who represents the terrorist organization, Abhinav Bharat.’
